Come On Mom – Let Us Help You!
Mom or dad refuses to let us bring a caregiver in!
You may be surprised at this but this is very common when people are first introduced to idea of having someone come into their home to assist with caregiving. There are many reasons for this but the thing to keep in mind is this; it is not optional in many cases. It is critical to get the necessary help.
The fact of the matter is that if mom or dad doesn’t get the help that is needed, it will not be an ongoing argument for long. The reason? Mom will end up in a facility sooner than later if she refuses the help and it does not arrive. She will try to do a task that she has no business doing, and that will be all it takes for the accident to occur. Once this happens, it’s a game changer.
The option of homecare now is off the table and the task of choosing which facility mom will be going into is the decision to make. If you thought she was serious about not having a caregiver in her home, imagine how she’s going to react when you tell her that she must go into a facility.
The importance of explaining to a loved one why they need a caregiver cannot be overstated. Either they get the help they need while they can or they will be getting the help they have to have in a different location. It is absolutely critical that mom or dad understand that if they do not get the help now at home, there is a very strong possibility that in the future they will not be at home because of an injury. They MUST agree to let someone help them; plain and simple.
Once mom gets used to the caregiver and the chemistry is good; she will realize it is the best decision she ever made! She will also wonder why she didn’t do it sooner! Trust me, this happens often!
